PREFORMED METAL STANDING SEAM ROOFING

Part 1: GENERAL
1.01 SECTION INCLUDES
This section includes, but is not necessarily limited to, furnishing and installing preformed standing seam metal roof panels, flashing, metal trim and accessories as indicated on the drawings and specified herein.

 

1.02 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS    
  A. General: Provide manufactured roof panel assemblies complying with performance requirements indicated and capable of withstanding thermally induced movement and exposure to weather without failure or infiltration of water to the building interior.
  B. Wind Uplift Resistance: Provide roof panel assemblies that meet 140 mph rating when installed according to manufacturer’s recommendations.

 

1.03 SUBMITTALS
A. Shop Drawings: Submit shops drawings in accordance with Section 01330. Show layout of panels, details of fabrication and details of accessory items.
  B. Samples: Submit samples as requested by Architect.

 

1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE
  A. Manufacturer’s Qualifications: Manufacturer shall have a minimum of 10 years experience supplying metal roofing systems to the region where the work is to be done.
B. Field Measurements: Take field measurements of structure or substrates to receive panel system prior to fabrication of panels.

 

1.05 STORAGE AND HANDLING
A. Store all materials out of the weather in a clean, dry, well-ventilated area. 
B. Elevate one end of bundles so moisture can drain. 
C. Do not allow standing moisture on bundles of panels, flashing or flat sheets.

 

1.06 WARRANTY
  For painted metal roofs, provide manufacturer’s written warranty covering 50 year rust  perforation and against failure of factory applied Kynar 500 Fluoroceram finish for 30 years.
Part 2: PRODUCTS
2.01 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURER

2.02 PANELS
A. Profile:
1. Easy Lock standing seam roofing panels providing 12” coverage. 
2. 1 1/8”  high snap-together lock seams.
3. Accent ribs (3) equally spaced in pan area, (flat pan optional).
4. Panel flanges to be pre-slotted 12” o.c. to accommodate concealed fasteners.  Screw slots shall be 3/16” x3/4” minimum to allow for expansion/contraction of panels.
B. Gauge and Grade of Metal:
1. Steel – Painted:  
a. 24 gauge (.023 steel thickness prior to painting) per ASTM A-653 structural quality G- 90 hot dip galvanized steel. 
b. 26 gauge (.018 steel thickness prior to painting) per ASTM A-653 structural quality G- 90 hot dip galvanized steel.
2. Steel – Galvalume Plus: Acrylic coated 24 gauge, 55% zinc/aluminum coated steel conforming to ASTM A-792, coating class  AZ55.
3. Copper: 16 ounce – uncoated.
C. Finish:
Kynar 500 (Fluoroceram) coating standard three coat, thermo-cured, full strength 70 percent resins.
D. Color: As selected by the Architect from the manufacturer’s standard colors.

 

2.03 ACCESSORIES
Fasteners: Use fasteners as recommended by the manufacturer, suitable for the application and design loads. 
1. Galvanized and Oxyseal/Xylon coated for exterior application.
2. Provide exposed fasteners with heads matching color of roof panels and flashings by means of factory applied coating. 
3. Locate and space exposed fasteners in true vertical and horizontal alignment. 

 

2.04  PANEL FABRICATION 
Panel, flashing and accessory fabrication: 
1. To be roll formed and fabricated at factory.  Field formed panels are not acceptable.
2. Manufacturer’s standard procedures and processes must meet indicated performance requirements and comply with indicated profiles and dimensions and structural requirements.

 

Part 3: EXECUTION
3.01 INSTALLATION
A. Metal panel installation:
1. Install per manufacturer’s instructions and per details on drawings.
2. Field cutting panels by torch or abrasive wheel prohibited where cut is exposed to final view.
3. Install metal roof panels with concealed fasteners in each screw slot of pre-slotted screw flange.
 3.02 CLEANING AND PROTECTION
A. Damaged units: 
  1. Panels or flashings that have severe paint and/or substrate damage shall be replaced as directed by the Architect’s or Owner’s representative.
B. Cleaning: 
  1. If applicable, remove temporary coatings and strippable film prior to installation.
